WANDERING STOCK.
A GROWING EVIL. "Is wandering stock very bad in Taranaki?" inquired His Worship, Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, when a number of cases ot breaches of the County by-laws Vere called on yesterday. The County solicitor (Mr. R. H. Qililliam) replied that the evil was very pronounced all through the district. "Tr.» Egmont County Council," he said, "is taking strong steps in the matter because they find their leiriency las been abused." His Worship: It is a great danger to motor traffic, particularly at night. Counsel said that the offences were generally committed at night, as it was the custom of the inspector to make a ronnd of the roads about 'daylight, and he usually found straying Btock in the morning before the owofer had arrived to remove them.
The cases before, the Court were dealt with as follows:—W. Brown, allowing two horses to be at large on Mamaku Road, £1 10s"(costs 17s 6d); R. Symes, cow wandering on Waitara Road, £1 (costs 17s 8d); R. Garlic, permitting horse to wander on Te Arei Road, >£2 (costs 17s 6d).
