At the meeting of the Wanganui County Council on Friday, it was decided to support the proposal to get engineering advice in connection with the suggested damming and locking of the Wanganui River for the dual purpose of providing hydro-electrical energy and improving the facilities for navigation. The chairman (Mr. Allan Robinson) said other local bodies viewed the proposal sympathetically with the exception of the Wanganui Borough Council, whose members appeared to think that tlhe Wangaehu was the only possible source, and did not realise the benefits that locking the river would provide for Wanganui. He believed the Wanganui County could absorb 1500 h.p. lie believed thilt a'l inquiries should be made north of Ka:ori, where, without damming the Wangaehu river it was possible to get a supply of power at a 1000 feet altitude.
