The Washington" correspondent of the World says that it is announced that the State Department informed the American Manufacturers' Export Association that it was not deemed advisable to approach Aijstriiiian Government on the preferential feature of tho Australian tariff. The Association had protested to the Statfi Department that the preferences towards Britain woujd work to the disadvantages of many American iiianufaci,irt>rs who had built up'.trade with the Commonwealth. Mr. Sheldon," interviewed, said he"was not. surprised at tTie State Department's a<Stlon. He pointed out that the United States received preferential treatment in. Cuba and added that individual manufacturers in the United States and Canada had approached him concerning the preferential feature of the Australian tariff, but he told them he could not take up the matter unless they came to him through official channels.—Aus.N.Z.
