Sir, S. H. Malison, an old settler, (lied at Wanganui on Tuesday, at the ripe age of 84 years. He was one of the early storekeepers of the river town. The Wanganui Herald reports that Mr. George Buckley is resigning the conductorship of the Male Choir owing to ill-health.

At the Wellington conference of . the Dominion School Committees' Association, Mr. 8. G. 'Smith, M.P., Taranaki, was elected president.

The marriage took place in London recently of Miss Ettie Rout, M.A., and •Mr. P. A. Hornibrook, two well-known residents of Christehureh in pre-war days. Miss Rout's work for the boys in England and France was considerable. Mr. D. Mcßao, who for a number of years lias been on the Itltham railway staff, has resigned from the service to take up an appointment with C." A. Wilkinson, Ltd. His confreres presented him with a case of Loewe pipes on Tuesday evening (says the Argus). ' Mr. J. I). Holms, district engineer in the Public Wor& Department at Gisbornei, has resigned his position, and

hopes to be relieved at the end of August (says a Press telegram). He enters partnership with Messrs Toogood and Jones, and will have charge, as resident partner at Tauranga, of the location and construction of the railway from Te Awitmutu to Putaruru under the Local Railways Act.
