BROKEN HILL MINES. By Telegraph.—press Assd.—Copyright ! Sydney, July 13. An interim Broken Hill report on miners' disease recommends compensation and assistance for tubercular workers, and states that the majority of the Broken Hill miners show no sign of dust in the respiratory organs. The report expresses the opinion that mining can be continued with eomplete safety, so far as injury to the lungs k concerned. The compulsory conference respecting the Broken Hill 'strike has been adjourned until Tuesday—Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn. DUTY ON IMPORTS. Melbourne, July 13. Mr. Green, Minister of Customs, told a deputation from the Australian Association of British Manufacturers that the existing system of levying duty on imports on the home consumption value was law. Any other arrangement would operate harshly against Britain. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. NEW BUTTER CONTRACT. Melbourne, July 12. The Imperial Government has cancelled the cheese and butter contracts from July 1 and 31 respectively. The new butter contract, starting on August 1, is £l2 per cwt.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
