Mackenzie said he was sure Sir, James Allen would receive the same hospitality and courtesy as he had refceived, and he wished him welL Colonel Amery, proposing Sir James 'Allen's health, said he regretted Sir Thomas Mackenzie's departure. He would cany witt him the good wishes of those with whom he had come in contact. Welcoming Sir James Allen, Colonel Amery paid a tribute to the work done by him in New Zealand as Minister for Defence and acting-Premier. New Zealand's record in the war was beyond all credit. Sir James Allen had had.heavy sacrifices to make during the war, and he now came to England at ft critical period of relations within the Empire, There were many problems to solve, but "men who count in the Empire'' 'should be in personal touch with each .other if these problems were to be (satisfactorily solved and a single Imperial policy evolved. . It was a wise thing" for New Zealand to send a man who was in such close touch with New Zealand's views. Therefore welcomed Sir James Allen. In replying, Sir James Allen testified to Ifce great work of his predecessor, whicjr.the Government fully recognised. S« Wished personaly to thank him. New Zealand was intensely loya l to the Motherland and Willing to help her in all her needs. Tha,t loyalty could beet be maintained by closer contact heMreen statesmen of the various units.
