(Prom. Our Own Correspondent.) The largest and most enthusiastic assemblage (an Opunake record) appeared at the Town Hall last Friday evening, the occasion of the Coronation Baii, when Miss Stevenson (Pihama) was enthroned as Queen of the Convent Carnival. The other candidates, Misses Freda Jarrett (Convent), S. Hickey (Hibernia), Molly Fleming (Oaonui and Rahotu), were also present in "official" order. The Queen and her sponsors and the "court" lackeys made an interesting and spectacular sight for the peasants. Everything was carried out on a royal scale. It is stated that the cost of the dresses worn at the ceremony totalled something like £3OO. The new theatre which is being constructed by alterations and additions to O'Rorke's concrete building is now well in hand. It is being constructed for the purpose of a picture theatre and 'the furnishing and completeness of the building will be up-to-date. The ordinary meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday evening. The members present were: Messrs C. A. Trotter (chairman), J. P. Burton, G. W. Rogers, and C. Sorrensen. The foreman reported that he had attended to variotis footpaths and water channels; he also submitted a list of occupiers of land whose frontages had gorse growing thereon.
