BUTTER EXPORT.
QUESTION IN THE COMMONS. SAFEGUARDING THE PUBLIC. By Telegraph.—Press Asan.—Copyright. Received July 11, 5.5 p.m. London, July 9. In reference to the disposal of New Zealand butter and cheese through the Co-operative Society, Mr. McNeil asked Mr. C. A. McCurdy (the Food Controller), in the House of Commons, on what evidence he based his anticipation that the consumers would not suffer any readjustment of trading arra/ngements, and also whether he possessed sufficient powers to prevent this threatened cornering. Mr. McCurdy pointed out that no definite arrangement had yet been made to sell New Zealand produce through the Society. The Ministry of Food would carefully consider any contemplated action. Meanwhile, it was impossible to say whether action was necessary. The Ministry intended ,to maintain the existing restrictions on private dealing in butter, and he considered the Ministry's powers wholly adequate to safeguard the consumer.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
