BALLOTED MAN ON TRIAL.

A court-martial opened at Dunedin to* ' ■ nay to hear the case of Private Arthur - Gregory McCarthy, a Juemoer of the Expeditionary Force, for alleged desertion, having absented himself from KeHSineton tell Hall without leave on Febru- ■ ary 16, 1917, until arrested at Chrirtchurch on June 7th last. McCarthy ' pleaded pot guilty. .i, Tl,e 11! i< ? ry P ros ecutor's statement showed that accused was 23 veire of age when called in a ballot, and that he ignored the notice calling him to attend a medical examination. When arrested he was going unaer an assumed name. He had a military leave pass in ' his possession. , The case is proceeding. 1 •
