J By TeletrMhF-Preu AumliUui. •Wanganui, Last General Sir William Birdwood arrived this afternoon, coming down the rit«r from Fipiriki, to which he motored from Ghakune, where the Mayor of Wanganui and the president of the R.S.A. met him at 4 a.m. General Birdwood was given a civic reception, , a very lam crowd assembling, and subsequently he was entertained at afternoon tea, by returned soldiery. At night ho was their guest at the Opera House. VISIT TO HAWERA. PROGRAMME FOR TOjJDAY. General Birdwood will leave Wangaoui by motor early this morning lor 9a< wcra, where he will stay until" to-morrow morning. At 11.30 a.m. a civic welcome will be given to the General; and after lunch lie- will attend the football . matches. In the evening lie Will visit J the Dominion Show,
