A conflict of opinion was disclosed in regard to the following remit from Tarenaki: "That with a view of improving the breeding of horses the Government be urged to prevent any stallion being placed at the stud that is not pasßed'ib« veterinary examination." In opposition] to the proposal it was explained tint op account of a shortage of stallion*, opS siderable hardship would be inflicted'og many horse-owners if legislation wnf enacted on the lines suggested. The DirM ector-General of Agriculture (Dr. C Jjjj Reakes) strongly commended the remits The remit was carried. The Council decided tol approach the Government to ascertain whether it' would legislate with a view tflj providing funds for the purpose of mate ing inquiries as to foreign markets f<*| New Zealand meat, the basis of provid*] ing such funds being per head of sheepl owned in New Zealand. Sir Walter Btt«| chanan and Mr. J. D. Hall were appointed] a committee <to meet delegates from thtl Farmers' Union and the. Sheep Owner#l Conference, and ask that they, along! with the Council, act with the Board «P Agriculture to obtain the information in] I question, and itake further aotion if nedV essary. ; The fact that A. and P. Societies ar*| handicapped in their efforts to provMiw adequate accommodation for exhibiting! breeders through lack of funds, was eni«| phasised by the Taranaki delegate in tfitil following remit:—"That legislation b*| framed whereby Government financial in«jj stitutions shall be given power to grant loans to A, and P. Societies on simihqj conditions to those on which money is adj vanced to local bodies." The remit Wftl carried. ' ■'! Another remit requested the Govern*! ment to give more encouragement to invjj porters of pedigree stock. It was menv tioned that the South African ment subsidised shipping companies i» connection with the carriage of pedigrir stock. The remit was carried. s* In the face of some opposition, «: majority of delegates affirmed that the. time was ripe for bringing into effect m resolution passed at the 1014 conference! regarding ear-marking and branding of; sheep and cattle. Unanimously it was decided to request, the Government to reconsider the amount of compensation allowed for condemned cattle with a view to increasing same. ''■ A Hawke's Bay remit was adopted, urging that judgment demonstrations ok farm live stock be given at agricuHur*! l shows by Government expert lecturers, and that officers of the Department o| Agriculture should assist in organising) same, ,? The following were elected to fUI vatancies on rthe executive council:—North Island: Messrs. Q. Donald, W. Petty and; E. H. Campbell. South Island: The Son.; A. L. Hawke, and Messrs. R. W. Loofcl head and W. D. Pike. *
