PARLIAMENT TO-DAY.
i ADDRESS-IN-REPLY iDEBATE. | GOVERNMENT'S SECURE POSITION, (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wellington, L&Bt Night.' It is expected that the debute on the Address-in-Rcply and the no-confidence motion may go on for the whole of this week. There seems to be a disposition on the part of the Government to take a decided part' in this debate, and not : to allow any statements, however irresponsibly made, to go' unanswered. In past years tho policy of Government members has been to allow such things to go, and to assist the Government to get the business through by themselves keeping silence; but they have very recently come through nil election campaign, nnd possibly it his taught them something about the wis- >;■ dom or otherwise of such a policy. At any rate, it is reported that thiy have no intention of keeping silence in thi» debate. At some time or Other the Prime Minister hopes to, take part in the debate, but no time can yet be teed for hij speech. There is still doubt as to how the Independents will vote. It seems that they will be split on the issue of the no-confidence motion, for the' general belief is that some of them will voto with the Government, and that »ome of them will vote with the Opposition for the amendment. The only one of tho Independents who lias yet declared himself is Mr. Lyanai - , oj Ginborne, but without the votes of any of the Inde- • ! pendents the Government is quite dure J of a decisive majority over the combined forces of .the Liberal?, independ- '■ ents, and Laborites.
