- A FAREWELL MESSAGE. By telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 5. The following message from Lord Liverpool (the retiring Governor-General) and Lady Liverpool has been issued:— "On the eve of sailing from these Islands for the Old Country, Lady Liver- , pool and I desire to convey to the peopk of New Zealand our best wishes for their i welfare and prosperity, and to assftr? * them that, though separated from them, _we shall never forget all the kindnesses which we have received during our stay among them. I am convinced tha 1 ;, though every part of the Empire has 1 had to face most stupendous difficulties 1 in the last few years, the nation will cheerfully surmount all the obstacles which still remain, and New Zealand, in common with all the possessions of the Crown, will manfully take her share in solving the problems which confront the world. We leave New Zealand, which has been our home for so long, with deep regret, but we hope some day to revisit its shores and renew our associations with the inhabitants, for whom we shall always entertain nothing but feelings of genuine affection and regard.
