The safe arrival of the Inter-State cargo steamer Inga at Sydney last week from Greymouth draws attention to a fine engineering and shipwright feat that was performed recently at Wellington, says the New Zealand Times. It will be remembered that the Inga had her hull badly holed through touching a rack in the Taranaki Bight, while bound from Sydney to Wanganui. The vessel came on to Wellington for repairs. Her owners, R. S. Lamb and Co, Sydney, decided that the Inga should be temporarily patched up at Wellington and bo permanently repaired In dock on arrival at Sydney. Accordingly the Inga was talten upon the Wellington patent slip end a huge wooden patch wbr fitted on the vessel's Iron hull—the first undertaking of Its kind performed in New Zealand The patch measured about 45 feet In length and extended from one bilge keel to the other, In width—about 45 feet ajlso. The timber used was totara., Whenjthe job was complete the Inga was IcuncheST and thoroughly tested. She proceeded from Wellington ot Oreymouth and took a load of timber from the latter port to Sydney.
