GIVEN BY THE ARBITRATION COURT. Little did our competitors realise when they set out in the Arbitration Court to clip our wings by endeavoring to import into the £ tailoring award restrictions that would have interfered with our Modern Methods of production, that they were to give us such a series of flue advertisements. The Court gave them no hearing at all when they hrought forward their specious pleas. Nqjjt the eminent Judge goes out of his I way in Christchureh to rebuke the other side (the worker) for i the attitude it was assuming in | restricting the earning capacity | of employees. Listen to this | (as per the Press Association re- 1 g port)l ' After hearing evidence, His 1 Honor said that at New Ply- | mouth evidence was given that 1 under the team system workers 1 were able to earn 50 per cent higher wtfges, and to produce clothing at reasonable rates. Mr. P. R. Cooke (for the Union): That system robs the •workers of their individuality and makes slaves of women. His Honor: The women did not look like slaves. They were strong, intelligent looking women, who resisted interference with the conditions under which they were Urorking. The "team" system referred to by Mr. Justice Stringer is not the system that obtained in the old days when the nigger-driving indulged in brought the system into ill repute. Our modern system 1' -we have described in this space. It is the scientific apportionment and arrangement of work, supervised at every turn, that produces _ the most economical and efficient results which we pass on to customers. This is why we can turn out clothes so cheaply and yet so highly tailored and eminently satisfactory. We this opportunity of thanking our competitors for this gratuitous advt. We will have something interesting to say next week. .MODERN TAILORS LIMITED, "BESLEY'S" Stratford New Plymouth. RECREATION FOR "WINTER \ EVENINGS. JJOW do you spend your winter evenings?
