DAIRY PRODUCE.

HAWERA SHOW DISPLAY. ' 5 . ' 3 A STRIKING EXHIBITION. ' ( FULL LIST OF AWARDS. Dairy produce, as is only to be ex- 1 pected in a district which owes so much } of its progress to the dairying industry, has again been given a prominent place a at the Dominion Dairy Show, which i opens at Hawera to-day, and the dairy V produce hall presents a very attractive j appearand. The exhibits are well ) displayed, whilst the pot plants and I handsome trophies add considerably to J the tiffeot. Special interest is attached to the section showing New 2ea- I land cheese as shipped. Entries in butter and cheese are more numerous than last year. In butter, Taranaki is very strongly represented, J securing most of the prize money. The Midhirst Dairy Company (Mr. J. M. j Bowman) wins four first prizes, and also the points prize and gold medal. Moa, l Mr. W. M. Ross, is close up with two j seconds, a third, and a fourth. In cheese, Taranaki factories are not I so successful. Palefield, Belvedere, and 1 Rexdale won the bulk of the prize- i money, the first-named securing a "leg in" in two cups, and also winning a' gold watch. Hukanui also secures two J first prizes and the Lonsdale Cup. Matamau scores a first prize. Jolls and Man- ] gatoki (Mahoe branch) are the only Taranaki factories to win first prizes. j The judges, in ttieir comments, re- i mark that the cheese was quite up to 1 last year's standard, as was also the ! butter. The flavor of the prize-winners i left little to be desired. The a%ards 1 are as follows: ] BUTTER. ] BEST BOX FACTORY BUTTER; open to all factories in New Zealand. First prize, I £5 ss; second, .£3 3s; third, £2 2s; fourth, £1 Is. A Challenge Cup, palued at £lO 10a (presented by the Dominion , Dairy Show), to the maker scoring the highest points In this class, and 'to be- i come the property or the maker winning the Cup twice In succession or three times at Intervals.
