Much prominence is given the French newspapers to the serious position of the Press created by the shortage o£ paper (says a Paris message to the London papers of March 18). The Matin states that a large number of newspapers are threatened with extinction. It points out that he price of paper has increased ninefold since 1914, and that the limit has not been reached by any means. Some time ago the Press office was formed with a. view to pooling and rationing paper according to circulation, but several of the leading newspapers refused to enter the combine, so the bureau is about.to bo dissolved.
