SIXPENCE CHEAPER.
RANGE OP TEA PRICES. There has been a decided reduction in the range of prices for tea within the last few days, and already the consumer is profiting considerably, says the Wellington Times. Quite recently, tea values dropped no less than Is per lb from the highest point, but they hardened again so quickly that there was a delay before house-holders received the benefit. Now, however, they are enabled to purchase tea at a cost that works out at a little over sixpence per lb below recent values. This pleasing intelligence was furnished on Tuesday, by a leading Wellington retailer. He also forecasted further material reductions in the near future, but pointed out that in readjusting the prices these handling the stocks had to take into consideration not only the latest quotations but also what the stocks in hand had cost. COFFEE AND COCOA. Referring to coffee and cocoa, he said that prices were slightly easier, but as yet the fall was not very noticeable. This, because retailers had ample supplies—all of which had been bought, at high rates —to meet the demand that was considerably weaker than formerly. The falHng-off in the inquiries for these commodities was due to the very high values that had obtained for some time past, but no doubt with the gradual consumption of stocks in hand and the purchase of further supplies at lower cost, with a conferment reduction to the householder, the trade in these lines would get back to normal.
