HIGHER PAY FOR JUDGES. INCREASE FOR LEGISLATORS. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. The Civil List Bill, introduced in the Mouse of Representatives to-day, deals with the salaries and allowances of the Governor-General, the Judges .of the Supreme Court, the members of the Ministry, and the members of the General Assembly. The Bill provides that the enlaries and allowances specified in. the schedules shall he exempt from income tax, and all other taxes and charges. The Governor-General is to be paid on the old scale. The Chief Justice is to be paid £2OOO a year, and seven pui9ne Judges are to be paid £ISOO a year. Tlie salary of the Prime Minister ia to bo £I6OO, and provision is made for ten Ministers at £IOOO annually each. Ministers are to be provided with a residence in Wellington, or a house allowance of £2OO annually. One Maori member of the executive may be paid £BOO annually, or two members may be paid £SOO each, The salaries proposed to be paid to members of Parliament are as follow: Speaker of. the Legislative Council, £700; Chairman; of Committees of the Council, £400; members of the Council, £300; Speaker of the House of Representatives, £1000; Chairman of ComWittees of the House, £6oo;'members of the House, £4OO, Members of the House at present are paid £3OO, and members of the Council £2OO annually.
