Mr. J. Sutherland, Mayor of Inglewood, left by the mail train yesterday on a visit to the Waikato.

Messrs. W. Scott and H. J. Moverley leave to-day for Wanganui, where they will act a3 judges of the poultry and pigeon classes respectively, at the Wanganui Sho\v.

The Taranaki Education Board has been notified that Mr. J. A. Valentine, of Christchiirch, has been appointed senior inspector' for the Taranaki district, and will probably take up his j duties early in August. In the meantime Mr. W. A. Ballantynp will act as senior inspector and Mr. Dempsey as additional temporary inspector during tlie month of July. Mr. and Mrs. H. Benton and family, who for some years have resided at Vogeltown, leave by train to-day for their new home at Hastings. During Mr. Benton's residence here he has taken a keen interest in all matters affecting the welfare of the district. He has held the position of president of the Vogeltown Progressive Association, has been president of the Bowling Club, and. an active member of the committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society. • A message from Gore says that I>r. Thomas Scoular Fleming died suddenly on Tuesday afternoon in his motor car near Kelso. He left Gore in the morning, apparently in the usual health, and on the way home the other occupant of the car noticed that he appeared ill, and decided to secure the nearest medical attention at Tapanui, but Dr. Fleming expired shortly afterwards. An inquest was to be held this morning.

A tribute to Mr. William Rundle was touched on in the annual report of the New Plymouth Bowling Club, whidi was presented at last night's meeting. The report said: "During the year one of our active playing members, Mr. VV. Rundle, attained his 90th birthday, and the members of the Club availed themselves of the opportunity thug afforded to present him with a momento to celebrate this unique occasion. Instances are rare and this is the' only one within our knowledge where any Club lias had, the privilege of associating with an active playing member on his 90th birthday, wo | are proud of our veteran player, and trust that he will be with us yet for many years to come." The late Mr. Edward Buller, who died in New Plymouth on Tuesday at the very advanced age of 96 years, was a typical English gentleman. He came to New Zealand from Cornwall, England, in about the year 1858 and after staying a little time in Auckland he removed to Australia, where he spent some time following his occupation as a high-cla»s tailor's cutter, principally in Sydney, though he was for a while in both Melbourne and Geelong. in 1861 he revisited England, and was married, at Brighton, to a Miss Fry. On returning to New Zealand he still followed his calling, spending some years at Nelson. When coming to years, of retirement ho lived for a time with the family of his grand-nephew, the late. Mr. Fletcher Buller at Mokoia, h>« wife having died before that time. His family consisted of one son and a daughter, the latter being the only surviving member, she living in Australia. Mr. Buller was a brother of the late Rev. .James Buller, a prominent minister in the New Zealand Methodist Chu»3ii. He was also micle to Sir Walter Buller, and a cousin of the late General Sir Redvers Buller. His nearest living relative is Mrs. Haybittle, of Hawera, who is a daughter of the late Mr. Fletcher Buller.
