The Majority Socialists will probably urge that Herr Ebert should i stand for another tern. It is doubtful whether : he will consent. It is understood that Hindenburg asked the ex-Kaiser's permission to becomefe candidate. The Conservative!; will have" a strong candidate. One suggested is Prince Bulow, but he will probably decline, as he intends living in Switzerland.—Aus.Cable Assn. FOOD RIOTS IN GERMANY. •WOMEN STORM SHOPS. Berlin. June 27. • b«r No»ke has been appointed President of the Upper House. There has been a" recurrence of food riots, in various towns in Germany. The most serious was at Bremen, where crowds seized stalls in the market ancl sold goods much below the demanded OTGea. Subsequently women stormed ue provision shops. The police dis-' persed the crowds. Vorwaerts attributes the outbreak to Intriguers inciting the populace in order to compel the authorities to take reWtionwy counter-measures Thousands at Hamburg and Altona, Who are protesting against high prices, raided shops. - The police were compelled to fight the mob.
