DISTRICT NEWS.

HURFORD ROAD. (Prom Our Own Correspondent) The School Committee has started the usual annual series of enclrre parties and dances, So far they have been fairly well attended, but on account of several families removing from these parts and odd weddings taking place there seems a scarcity or the fair nex, 'consequently the gatherings are not as lartre as in the past, o The. miestimi of erecting a social hall has i been deferred for the same reason. I understand our schoolmistress, Miss Taylor, lias resigned. She has fulfilled the position very satisfactorily for the last two years. With the continuous wet weather our road was beginning tc get cut up, and recently has had the attention of our worthy foreman with the metal dray. The County's crushing plant is exneWed en the road shortly, and will commence crushing metal for the hill deviation, which is to he Started as soon as tho weather proves suitable. There Is one feature In connection with the loan which reflects credit. It Is thifc of the co-nperatlon of the settlers, all of whom have signed the consent form. Several farms have changed hands lately, including the following: Messrs. Myers, Wood, and Cowling. The last mentioned has been resold. Loads of furniture, etc., promise to be a common sight during .Tuly. M'esdamcs Sim and Williams have started a Sunday School. Quite a gathering of chldren takes place every Sunday afternoon at Mrs. Williams' residence. On Wednesday, the lfith.. Miss A. Loyerldge was married to Mr. James White, at the Whitoley Church, New Plymouth. It is with regret that I mention the loss to the district throutyi the death of Mr. T. A. Taylor During the time he was among us his ambition was to do his best for his neighbors and promote the betterment of the district. Mrs. Taylor and family have the deepest sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
