THE EXCHANGE DIFFICULTY.
.VALUING GOODS K>R DUTY. (Bjf Tele.—Special Correspondent.) , Wellington, Last Night. The question of an allowance for adverse or, a favorable exchange rate in valuing goods for Customs duty at New Zealand ports has been one of some concert to importers lately. The Minister of Customs (Hon. W. H. Herries) said to-day that thwe was. a 'decision of the Cabinet to permit of the assessment of the value of goods according to pre-war parity of currencies ill the two countries, or according to the present commercial value of the cur- J . feneies at the Minister's discretion. The! Minister said that during the present Session legislation- Would be introduced to provide for this.
