NEW PLYMOUTH OBSERVATORY.
PROGRESS OF THE SCHEME. The executive council of the New Plymouth Astronomical Society met on Thursday evening at the residence of the president, Mr. S. Percy Smith: There was a good attendance of members, and Mr. A. W. Burrell, who is constructing the observatory on Marsland Hill, was present. It was reported • that the dome lor the 6-inch refractor would be completed in about a fortnight, and that the arrival of the telescope and the 12-inch mirror might be expected at any time during July. Over 100 members lave now joined the. Society. The names of six ordinary and five life members were proposed, and approved at the meeting. The treasurer, Mr. T. M. Avery, presented the balance-sheet for the year ending June 30th. The sooety's funds are in a very healthy state, and the completion of the observatory as at present designed, free of debt, is assured. Copies of the Society's rules, adopted at the general meeting in November last, will be posted to members at an early date.
