LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

PROBABLE : APPOINTMENTS. There is a good deal of speculation in the lobby concerning the probable new appointments to the Legislative Council. It may be taken for granted that the Hons. C. A. C. Hardy and W. Eamshaw will be reappointed (says the Wellington Times;. In addition to these, it is expected that there wiH be five or possibly six new nominations. Two of these will ba from Auckland and one from the Taranalci district. It has been suggested that the latter may possibly be Mr. J. B. Hine, who was recently defeated for the Strationt seat. One of the certainties appears to be the Hon. JEdwin Mitchelson, who was a Minister for Publie Works in the Atkinson Ministry as far back as forty years ago, and who subsequently held the position of actingPremier for a period.
