A modern illustration of the use of wireless telegraphy, and one showing the result of prompt business methods is given by the promoters of the Palmerston North Y.M.O.A. building campaign (says the "Mnnawatu Daily Times"). Three days after the departure of the Mfikura for Vancouver, Mr P. McHardy, (lie commander-in-chief, sent a radio message to Mr L. T. McLean, a passenger, inviting him to increnso his contribution to £SOO, in order to qualify him as one of the ten required to meet Mr E. Short's sporting offer of £loflo. On Saturday Mr Me* Lean wirelessed from about 2000 miles at sea, agreeing, thus making eight of 'he required ten at £fiCo. A radio message was also received from Sir K Short. 011 the Makura, as follows: "Hood wishes, name the building Kitima, meaning the pivot controlling the compass, whereby the Maori put sin awav and made God to reign within. \our work will help somebody's boy'', Kitima is probably a contraction of Ki te malia, which is translated as "For the many."
A Russian writer says that his country is making progress, but it is progress backwards. "In another three years," he writes, "we shall have all the buildings of Moscow tumbling about our ears; in ten years we shaU be running about on all fours; and in twenty vears we shall be?in sprouting tails."" It -would be strange if Bolshevism proved to be th» missi.l2 link. ' *
