MYSTERY OF A MOTOR.
A REVOLVER AND BLOOD STAINS,
WAS THERE A TRAGEDY?
By Telegraph.—Press Assu.—CopyrlsM.
Dunedin, Last Night.
There is something of a mystery attaching to the visit of a motorist to a painter in Glasgow Street, South Dunedin, on Friday morning. The motorist was in a hurry, and asked that his number plate be changed from Tu. 804 to D. 3777. The former letters represent the Tuapeka County Council registration, and the latter the Dunedin City Council. While this was being done the motorist went away, and during his" absence the painter looked in the car and found in a box a loaded revolver, which bore the appearance of having been recently discharged, a shirt deeply stained with blood, and two or three blood-stained towels.
The man returned, secured his freshlynumbered car, and drove off. Subsequently the painter communicated with the police, who, however, have so far received no information that would point to a tragedy. The car was" a threeseater four-cylinder Buick. Inquiries at Tuapeka revealed the fact that there was no such number as SO4 on the motor register there, while the Dunedin number appropriated by the stranger is that of a well-known professional man.
