The Rugby Union has arranged for Wanganui College to meet New Plymouth Boys' High 'School at Hawera on Saturday, July 10. The match will be played as a curtain raiser to the Taranaki-Wanganui match. The Rahotu-Cilfton second junior match ne v t Saturday is to be played at Waitara, not at Rahotu as previously; stated. Tufcipa thoroughly- _ deserved their win against Stratford on ThMjsday last, and are now assured of (he Thursday premiership, lvitli the possibility by no means remote that the club may also annex the northern Saturday competition. Tukapa possesses a number, of young keen [ players who are adopting a systematic course of training, which may account for the ginger that iheir light forwards put Into their work : against, the heavy Stratford pack, which they < held belter than was anticipated, and it is I largely to 1 his that they owe their victory, 1 for while their backs were, as was expected, t nippier and ,i better combination ail round than the Stratford rearguard, the Stratford forwards were unable to obtain sufficient wastery over the blue pack to compensate Stratford forwards put great dash into their f work for the first half of the second spell ana, with any supoprt from their backs, should have run up a reasonable score, hut fi the Tukapa team, heartened by their, seven points lead In the first, spell, kept at them, 1 mi towards the end vera holding their own Had Stratford forwards infused the same ginger " into thoir play during the ftrsj: half, the result might have been different. Kivell was easily the best forward on *hc ground, playing with great dash and never making a mistake. King was also in great fortn, though Inclined to hang on too much, fi uempson and McCullough were also promln- »! i'i . -\ las f ers ls hardly up to concert pitch, whilst Carlson has not reproduced representative form.
Fryday as rover, does a lot of work, and worries the opposing half. Sullivan, a junior, at second Bve-elghths, wa ? the pick of the Stratford backs, taking and kicking well.
Rogers and Collins, usually reliable, apparently had an%IT day. Failure, of the Stratford backs to find the work' 8 " 16 the ' r fom " rtl3 11 lot of unnecessary

Taylor also shone out, but a knock parly In the game took some of the steam out of him. tin?£* » a tendency to off-side piny. Whlttaker, at half, went down in great slyle to the strong Stratford rushes, and got his team out of trouble on several occasions, of *l so . t ' lr ° ws tll ° kail out well, though the htratrord pack did not give film too many opportunities of setting his backs in motion. lhe few times the Tukapa rearguard did get going they showed considerable combination. One passing rush was a beauty, Stohr had hard luck in being called bach for a throw forward Oliver Bros, and Hooker all played well and found lhe line nicely, H. Oliver had hard luck with his goal kicking. Iriar, at full-back, gave a good exhibition. He appears to be able to anticipate his opponents' move, a valuable acquisition in a full-back. Ho also tackled well, saving certain tries on three 01* four occasions. His potted goal was a. beauty.*, " Old Boys, by defeating Okato, scored their first two points of the season. During the second round they should win more matches than they did in the round Just closed. ■ Tnkapa had no difficulty in defeating Ranotu last Saturday week, doing all their scorns In the second spell. Of the twentytwo points scored, Hooker Bros, were responsible for 19. r. Hooker scored two tries (six points), while G. Ilooker scored ono try, converted two tries, kicked a penalty goal, and a goal from a mark, in all 13 points.. Star appeared to have pulled themselves together and should make a goptl showing during tho next round. In BertrandJ Bridger, Rowland, and Spence, the team possesses a Quartette of fine players. Now that United has dlsabnded, Star should gain an accession to their forwards. P. Roberts refereed most Impartially in the 1 match between Tukapa and Stratford on Thursday last, buc is rather slow in blowing the whistle. Congratulations to Cain (Clifton), Brown (Tukapa), and West (Hawera) on their inclusion in lhe North Island team. Should they play up to form the trio should be certain of a trip to Australia. All are returned soldiers and were members of the Now Zealand Soldiers' team. On the season's play it Is difficult to see how Taranaki could have secured further representation, though Comeron Is rapidly striking his best form, and, with Dick Rqberts now back in Ta?anakl, should have to be reckoned with later In tinseason. Neither Masters nor McCooh, who were included last year, are showing their old form. There is every probability tfiat the* Tara-1 naki-Wellington match, to be flayed at Wellington -during Winter Show week, will bo a Hanfurly Shield match, as Taranaki has asked Wellington to make It. a Shield match. Wairoa Sub-Union has asked to be givm a match against South Taranaki. This should provide a good opportunity of trying out thn Taranaki B team, and it would also serve to keep in training reserves for the representatives. United have decided to withdraw from the pnnipetltlmi. as It Is now impossible for them ro carry on, the closing of tho Works having lost them eight players. It is probable that the match against Auckland, at Auckland, will be played on July 17, as the Auckland Union prefer that date.
