WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Waitara Fire Board was held on Wednesday evening last, Mr. E. P. Webster presiding. The appointment of Mr, C. H. Tate as secretary was confirmed. The superintendent in his report asked for the installation of a Pelt-on wheel to provide power for bell-ringing. lie also asked the board to consider the matter of providing the brigade • with a motor reel or a conveyance of some quickly on the scene of a fire. Inquiries# are to be made as to the cost of converting a small car into a hose conveyance. The local members are to look into the matter of a Pelton wheel for the bell. The following were the estimates for the ensuing year: Hose £OS, upkeep £3O, firemen's boots £ 15. Mr. Murgatroyd forwarded his resignation as deputy superintendent, owing to being away from the town. A letter of thanks is to be forwarded to Mr. Murgatroyd for his long and fflithful service. Mr. S. Crow was elected to fill the vacancy. Mr. J. .Ronnie, was appointed chairman for the ensuing year. tS|. John's Church annual tea and concert will take place this year in July. The church committee has given away dates on two previous occasions to other occasions. The Clifton Hall will be the centre of attraction on June 24, 2.1, and 26, when, St. Patrick's bazaar will be in full progress. During the last few weeks the committee have been making preparations, and already the nimble sixperices have rolled in for guessing competitions. The five men a-side tug-of-war promises to be a big draw, the prize being a sweepstake with £lO added. . ■
