NEW TRAM FARES.
SCHOOL CHILDREN PENALISED "The biggest increase made in the tram fares falls on "school children," remarked the Mayor at the meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council last night. He pointed out that in the past school children under 1® received 14 rides for fid, and now thej onlv got 12 rides for a shilling. a > heavy tax on the children, and he thought the increase should fall on adults ratytry tjian on children. • Cr. Parkin favored going back to the' | old fares for children. The Mayor: I would dike to see school children travel on the trams for nothing, were it not that this would beopen to abuses. Other councillors thought the childferi should not be penalised, and after further discussion it was resolved to retert to'the old fares for children.
