GUNN TO BE HANGED.
THE DECISION OP CABMET. PRISONER IMPLICATES-OTHERS. By Telegnpb.—Pratt Auocittloa. Auckland, June 21. A voluntary statement concerning the murder of A. E. Braithwaite and tbe subsequent burglary at the Ponaonby Post Office was made on Saturday afternoon by Denniß Gunn, who hfif been , condemned to death for the former crime. The statement was taken by Mr. Poynton, S.M., in his official. Ampacity at Mt. Eden Gaol, and in the presence of witnesses. No* official information is available as to the contents of the document, which hasten handed by the magistrate to tbe sheriff, and is being forwarded by the, latter to the Minister of Justice at Wellington. It is understood, however, that the condemned man has admitted that he and another man robbed the Ponsonby Pott Office, but alleges that a third man shot Braithwaite. Both the men mentioned in the statement are in Auckland. So * far as can be gathered no official action other than that of forwarding the statementto the Minister.hat been taken. Wellington, Last Night. Dennis Gunn reached Wellington this afternoon, and a meeting of Cajrinet was called almost immediately to consider What steps, if any, should be taken concerning the prisoner's statement. Ita decision, as announced by tbo Prime Minister after the meeting, waa as follows: "Cabinet has fully considered the statement made by Gunn, and boa come to the conclusion that then it nothing to warrant it in altering the decision already arrived at. Nothing is being divulged as to the contents of Gunn's statement." As the date fixed for the execution is to-morrow morning, the deelflon means that Gunn will be hanged forthwith. , „•
