The death of Mr. George W. Perkins, financier, is reported in a cable from New York. Mr. P. J. H. White has bnen nominated as member for the northern ward on the Taranaki Education Board.
The death of Lord Cozens-Hardy, a fornier Lord Justice of Appeal, is announced in a cable from London. Lord Cozens-Hardy was in his 82nd year. A cable from London reports the arrival there of Sir James Allen, the new High Commissioner for New Zealand. He was welcomed at Southampton by Sir Thomas Mackenzie.
Major A. Mac Nab, of Wellington, holder of a New Zealand senolarship, gained a second class pass in law tripos at Cambridge (says a cable from London).
Mr. S. D. ICibby, postman, Eltham has received notice of promotion to a clerkship in the New Plymouth Post Office, and Miss Sowry, of the tTreuui telegraph office, lias been appointed exchange attendant at Eltham. Mr. J. Bailie, headmaster of Otakeho School, who lias been granted eleven months' leave of absence, and who is leaving on a visit to the Old Country, was tendered a farewell at Otakeho on Friday last, and presented with a travelling rug and bag.
Mr. C. A. Beaufort, who has been transferred to Marton from Inglewood, where lie has been a member of the railway staff for the last twelve months, was entertained by his fellow members of the staff on Friday night and presented by Mr. D. S. Broughton, acting stationmaster, with a smoker's outfit.
