STEAMER ON FIRE.
OUTBREAK ON SMALL VESSEL. By TeleerapSi.—Press Association. Tiinaru, Last Night. The small steamer Manaroa, 300 tons gross, left Dunedin for Lyttelton and Westport at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, with a full cargo of general merchandise. At 6.30 this morning she was found to have a fire in the midship hold. The crew fought the fire all .day, and, failing to master it, £aptain Johnston made for Timaru as the nearest port. The Manaroa arrived here at 7 p.m., and the fire brigade was sen£ for to assist. A large quantity of water was pourel into the hold, but the fire is still burning at 11 p.m.
