STRATFORD.

[Stratford Kepresentatlre: W. I. Wilson, Broadway North. Telephone 338.] June 16. A very successful social was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. B. Masters at Toko last evening. A presentation of a gold sovereign case from his supporters at the recent election was made by Mr. W. H. Were (chairman of the committee), who made eulogistic remarks concerning the qualities of the successful candidate. Mrs. Masters was the recipient of a silver entree dish, the presentation being made by Mrs. Were (chairwoman of Mr. Masters' ladies' committee). Mr. M. Gernhoefcr spoke of the excellent work Mr. Masters had done in the educational cause. Replying, Mr. Masters thanked those present on behalf of himself and Mrs. Masters for their kind wishes, and expressed his appreciation of the rise work achieved by his committees. A dance, interspersed by musical items, took up the latter part of the evening. Music was supplied by Mrs. Bianchi's orchestra, extras by Megdames Tuck and Maunsell. Messrs. M. Gernhoefer and J. T. Kilpatrick acted as M.C.'s. Songs were rendered by Mr. V. Thompson and Miss Scott, and "a recitation by Mr. T. Thompson. Supper was served by the ladies committee. The demand which has existed for some time for extra private boxes at the Stratford Post Office will now be considerably relieved by the thirty-five new boxes being fitted at present. The annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the Friesian Breeders' Association was held at Stratford on Tuesday. Mr. C. Marchant presiding. Mr. H. Marchant was delegated to attend the annual conference at Palmerston North, and was instructed to support the method of nomination of members of the Council by district committee!, also to back up remits from the Southland breeders relative to subsidising district committees. Mr. C. Marchant was elected president for the ensuing year The following executive was appointed: Messrs. Johnson, H. Marchant, C. Mayhead, J. Stables, R. T. B. Mellow, and C. Silby. Mr. C. Jackson was elected an honorary member of the branch. A farewell 'social to Mr. and Mrs. 11. Membery, of Pembroke Road, was held last night. A handsome presentation of a silver tea and coffee service to the quests was made on behalf of the residents by Mr. A. H. Belcher, Mr. Membery suitably returning thanks. A very pleasant evening was spent with dancing and musical numbers. Songs were retributed by Misses Phillips and Blank, and Messrs. G. Sanne and P. Aitken. Mr. C. H. Fox played accompaniment? a,.d also the dance music. The duties of M.C. were undertaken by Mr. M.' F. Newboid. A non-political complimentary sociai will be tendered to Mr. R. Masters, M.P. and Mrs. Masters in the Stanley' Road Schoolroom on Friday evening.
