LAND SALE.
The Hawera Winter Show Buildings presented an animated spectacle on Saturday, when a large and interested number of people attended the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. s lartl sale. The first property offered was on account of the trustees of the late Joseph Bawken, comprising 4*27 acres at Kakaramea. Bidding started briskly, and the following sections were sold:—Lot 4, 122 acres, including sandhills, at £96 per acre, Messrs .Watt Bros.; lot 3, (ii acres, at £l2O per acre, Messrs Watt Bros.; lot?, 123 acres (homestead), at £l4O per acre, Mr. D. B. Chamberlain. Lot 1, probably tile best land of all, did not reach the owners' idea of value, and was conscqnuntly passed in, but is not likely to remain long unsold. following the Bale on account of Hawken's trustees, 356 acres of native leasehold was submitted on account of Mr. W. 0. Williams. Bidding, however, did not reach the required figure, the property being passed in.
