TEACHERS' GRADING SCHEME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, June 12. The Masterton Teachers' Institute parsed a resolution this morning hoping that upon review the Department, will revert to the main, lines of the old grading scheme, which now obtained wide acceptance. ASIATIC COMPETITION. * Auckland, .Tuiie .12. Replying to a protest by shopkeepers against Asiatic competition, Mr. Massey says the question of ..mending the Immigration Restriction Act will have consideration in the legislation of the coming session. He asks for further particulars with regard to the suggestion that the Government legislate to buy out Asiatic shops under the same heading as those of Europeans. VESSELS COLLIDE. Wellington, June 12. The cable steamer Iris, while leaving the wharf lllis morning, collided with the Philomel lying at the next berth. It is understood the Iris, which was to repair cables in Cook Strait, is rather badly damaged, but no particulars are available. There was a heavy fog at the time of the collision.
