The question of a war memorial ha 3 been exercising the citizenß of Christchurch, for a. considerable time past. At i public meeting some months ago it was decided to erect as a war memorial a haH « memories, this being in accord- ' ance with the wish of returned soldiers. Sdtße sections of the- community did not (not the idea of a hall, and advoMH Af i bridge of remembrance ovdr in Oashel street, and a column in Cathedral Square, held meetings and decttUd to push these projects. Negotiations with the Citizens' Committee followed, and at a joint meeting held to-day it,was decided to drop the scheme for a ' hall of memories and go ahead with the other two. schemes.
