SAINT JOAN OF ARC.
CANONISATION SPECTACLE London, May 15. The Times' correspondent at Rome btates that the canonisation of Joan, of Arc at St. Peter's was a most wonderful spectacle, and was witnessed by huge crowds. An immense and varied papal procession, headed by monks, took houre tu pass up the nave. Midway in the procession fluttered Joan's great standard, which was lowered at tho Papal alter and placed in tke transept. IJehind this standard followed MO archbishops and bishops, walking two by two, accompanied by attendants. It seemed that the line of white mitres would never end. At 9.30 a thrilling blast, of silver .trumpets- heralded the entry of the Pope through the great centre door. From every point in the great cathedral wk'te handkerchiefs fluttered, spreading like a vast flock of doves. As: the Pope was borno slowly up towards the altar on the Sedia Gcstatoria, he seemed a tiny distant figure which moved its right hand from side to side, giving the benediction. Before him went the white-mitred College of Cardinals, and behind came tho choir of the 'Sistine Chapel, singing "Ave Maris Stella."
