The road is level and runs for about ten miles in nearly a straight line; some sixty, chains, to the northward of a pretty navigable river, to the northward of the road the rich pasture land of the valley spreads its groen carpet right to the foot of the hills; in the foreground stands one of those fine homesteads surrounded by shelter and ornamental trees, well kept gardens and lawns for which our valley is becoming noted.
