CAUSE OF MANY ACCIDENTS. A CORONER'S COMMENTS. By Telecraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. At the inquiry into the recent motor (smash at Sandon, whereby A. E. Eglinton was killed, and E. A. Penny and F. Kidman died subsequently from in* juries, the coroner found .that Eglinton'* car was on the correct aide of the road, and that up to the minute before the collision had its lights burning. As to the. speed of the cars, Eglington's had not much pace, but Newth's was travelling at 25 miles an hour, and probably more. The coroner did not consider 30 mile! an hour or a little over, excessive at the particular place Where the collision occurred, though he thought that there* 1 " was a failure on the part of the drive* of Newth's cor to keep a proper look out. If the latter had taken ordinary care he must have seen Eglington's ca* lights and been prepared. Therefore, he found that there was some neglif genee on Newth's part in failing to keep a proper look out. Under the circumstances, he would return an open that the deceased from injuries sustained in B motor collision at Sandon on May 20th. The coroner added that he would like to remark on the reckless driving which was undoubtedly carried on throughout the country, and which caused the accidents they read about so often. To his mind these accidents were the result of carelessness, and it was necessary that some action should be taken to prevent reckless driving.
