PEDIGREE JERSEY CATTLE.

FORTHCOMING DISPERSAL SALE. t This week Mr. Newton King ; s Be Hj n „ I by auction four old-established herds of pedigree Jerseys, they being those the property of Messrs. F. W Cornwall, Bell Blook, W A. Ollicer, Inglewood, C. W. Ruebe, Westown, and also the estate of the late H. B. Curtis, of Inglewood. Now that the Jersey is generally recognised as being the ideal cow for Taranaki these sales will afford Jersey breeders an exceptionable opportunity for procuring really fashionably bred cattle of hi«h butter fat producing qualities, the vendors having exercised particular care |g>m year to year in introducing strains brought about this latter chara»istic, Mr. Cornwall is selling his el sik her i&P f cattle with th* ext£pto,||»his yearling and 2-yeay containing 3-j cows* artS'Wulk. The breeding displajjed is, of a Mk high standard, K.C.B arflPSouraiae blood being most; prominent. "Hollybank Squire" (The Sqjtire-Astor's Bilberry) j 8 the herd sire, a very fine type and one who eomes from 'a heavy milk producing family. All the cows are in calf to this bull. Besides the catile, Mr. Cornwall is also selling a number of pedigree Berkshire pigs, of his own breeding The late Mr. Curtis was a particularly keen admirer iof Jerseys and when establishing his licrd 14 years ago there is no doubt that he used excellent judgment in the selection of his foundation stock; such grand cows as "May Beauty," "Virginia," "Madam Ladybird," "Monica," etc., all of which art closely connected to families of Jersey fame, being some of those which he' chose. "May Beauty", it will be remembered, is the dam -of. the ox-N.Z, champion butter-fat cow "Madam Mayflower," whose record was 7(!2lbs of fat. The first herd sire, "Short Tom," was a well bred bull, having left, some great stock. Oilier bulls used were: "Majestic'* Lad," bred by Mr. R. F. Wilkinson, of Pukckohe: "Miro Meadows Star" and "Miro Meadows Sapphire," the breeding of Mr. A. A. Ward, whose stock are too well known, to need comment. "Miro Meadows Star" displaying the famous K.C.B. and Starbright bloods, is the sire of practically all the 2-yenr heifers and yearling stock, all of which are a real credit to him. Every hoof in this stud is to be sold.

Mr. Officer has decided io relinquish dairying altogether, so is spiling flip whole of liis pedigree Mop]:, excepting yearling heifers, also .'ill very choies (trade Jersey cows and heifer's. TII3 pedigree stock were originally Hie property of Messrs. W. H. Tipp'ens and ? Dodunski. two well-known Taranaki breeders, and was taken over by Mr. Ofliper wlieii hp purchased their respective fr.rms. Oir type 'and production Hie eattle are a iirst-elass lot, such strains as "Molina,'' "Bilberry." "K.C.8.." ami ••( ampanile" blood being a strong indication of this point. "Belvedere Sim King," by "Roberts'' (imp.)— ".Belvedere Xungleam" (S.O. record 2G211)* fat), is tlie herd, sire and one worthy of that position. Mr. (.'. W. Rupbe's stud, although containing 10 head only, is pxeecdingjy choice in every respect. Mr. l'tueiie juts been breeding Jerseys for many years. and with only a limited farming'area, has been able to keep only a few head, and, consequently, what he considers the best. "Oniftta, Queen" and "Athena," with records of 02] .48 and f>7o.G3lbs of fat respectively, are two of his cows, and they show thai he has bred on high but-ter-fat producing lines. "Protection of Meadowbrnokc," by "Lord Twylish'' (imp.)— Victoria's is the herd sire and one who possesses a very strong combination of breeding. Chances of obtaining pedigren eattle from such a wide range of breeding are rare, and these sales will no doubt: be largely looked forward to by many lovers of the breed.
