Both rivers were bank to bank. There was a fair- amount of erosion; tut ' nothing serious. The new traffic bridge aiid the protection works of' the Wriganni River stood the test well. 'At ill* boat landing the Ongaruc was nine feet above the ordinary water mark, and it w ; doubtful if the river boat will go down *' to-day. ■ It is reported that there is 26 feet'ofj extra water at the houseboat. She ii BOW anchored over the flower-beds. Te Kuiti, June 7. It was reported at mid-day that tiers was two or three feet of water over the line north of Hangatiki. All wag clear to the south, and the express from the south will leave on its return this even' ing if no train from the north get* through.
TE KUITI UNDER WATER. THE TOWN ISOLATED. AN OVERSEER DROWNED. (By Telegraph.—Special to News.)' . Te Kuiti, Last Night. Torrential rain on Saturday night flooded Te Kuiti, and the, water invaded several shops. The damage is fairly, heavy. The town is isolated by slips on the main roads, but gangs are at Work clearing them. The Sunday express from the north, got through, but this morning the water rose rapidly on the line between' Hangatiki and Otorohanga, where it WM covered to a depth of three feet The express from the south stopped here. A fatality is reported from Hon:kiwi. E. P. A. Dunckley, a public works overseer, was swept off hi* hone and drowsed. His body has not been found. Several bridges have gone te the, country, and there' are numeroui slips and other damage. The weather cleared to-day and it ia hoped to get the trains through' tomorrow.
ROADS AND BRIDGES SOTtfER. ' Auckland, Last Night. Considerable damage to road* . and bridges by floods is reported by country correspondents of the Herald. Although the rain hud ceased the Waikato river was in heavy flood to-night, and wm rising at the rate of an inch an hour. Several roads were under water. A small slip occurred on the railway line to the Pukemiro mine, but men worked all day on Sunday and cleared the debris. The railway aer/ices throughout the province are more or leu. db* organised.
