SOLDIER SPREADS TERRORISM. SHOT DEAD BY POLICE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyrlcht, Received June 7, B.i>o p.m. London, Juno 7. Private Topliss, who murdered a chauffeur at Andovcr on April 24, and escaped in the olinuft'enr's motor-oar, was rounded up and shot in a Cumberland village, after a six; weeks' line and cry. during which Topliss made neveral attempts to hold up motorists. He also shot a policeman and a farmer in the Banffshire highlands. A Cirmbe;land policeman challenged Topliss, who whipped out a revolver and escaped temporarily. A party of police was collected and surrounded him. Topliss made his last stand by firing until ho was shot dead.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
