A point of general interest to the legal fraternity in connection with the trial of Dennis Gun for murder, at the Auckland Supreme Court, was the appearance of Mr. J. C. Martin in the role of Crown Prosecutor. Mr. Martin, after a distinguished legal career, practically gave up practice about seven years ago, when severed his connection with the firm of Devore, Martin, and Prendergast, Since then he has been living in retirement at the Bay of Islands, but has been keeping in close touch with matters pertaining to the legal profession. It is understood that he was retained by the Crown for this case only. Strangeiy enough, one of his- late partners, Mr. E. E. Prendergast, conducted the defence of the accused man, Dennis Gunn.
