THE GIRLS' HOSTEL. a meeting of the New Plymouth Girls' Hostel Committee it was decided to have a flower stall in New Plymouth every Saturday, also to hold an envelope | day early in July with the object of raising the necessary funds to provide a Girls' Hostel for New Plymouth. The date was also fixed for a Christmas Fair to take place the first week in December The committee would be' glad of the assistance of any ladies who would be willing to help in working up the various stalls. RETURNED SOLDIER'S WEDDING. A wedding of considerable interest was celebrated at Okato on Tuesday last, the contracting parties being Mr. Cecil Valentine Guy, a returned soldier, of Feilding, and Miss Mary Pearce, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pearce, of Okato. Owing to Mr. Guy still suffering from the effects of shell shock, the wedding was private, only relatives of the parties being present, «it the residence of the bride's parents. The Rev, C. Aker, assisted by the Rev. C. Strand, officiated! The bride was given away by her father, while Miss Hilda Pearce, sister of tha bride, acted as bridesmaid. The bride was attired in a handsome grey costume, and wore' a lace collar which had been worn by her mother 43 years ago, and her grandmother 70 years ago, on the occasion of their marriages. - She also wore a pretty black and pink hat, and a gold chain and locket, the latter being Che gift of the bridegroom. The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a handsome travelling rug. The bridesmaid wore a grey crepe de chene dress, a pink hat. The usual bouquets were carried. The best mnn was Mr. Nevil Gould, of Apiti. A large number nf congratulatory telegrams came to hand from distant friends, including Rev. Stockwcll, of Feilding. The presents were numerous and useful, including several cheques. The ladies of the local Methodist Church organised a kitchen evening, and about forty friends assembled at the residence of Mrs. King, an enjoyable social evening being spent. LITHGOW—TIPLADV. A quiet and pretty wedding was solemnised in St. Mary's Church on Wednesday morning last, when Miss Effie Tiplady, daughter of .Mr " al ,d Mrs. H. Tiplady, of New Plymouth, and Mr. Mathew Lithgow, of Glasgow Scot Jarnl, wore married by Archdeacon l.vsins. The bride wore an exquisite gown of ivory crepe de chene, with overdress of cremc net trimmed with Brussels point and bands of satin She also wore a wreatli of orange blossoms and a veil embroidered in silver and silk, and carried a sho™* bouquet of white and pink choice flowers veiled in maiden hair fern. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Minnie Tiplady, wore a frock of pink accordeon-pleated georgette over silk trimmed with helio fringe und embroidered with be,ads, and a large leghorn hat with wreatli'and embroidered fruit and flowers. Miss Elsie Gilbert, the other maid of honor, wore white georgette over crepe de 'chene beautifully embroidered in fancy stitching and sprays of beads, a hat 'of white erepe do ehene with ostrich feather wreath, and a pink silk scarf draped round the shoulders. 'Both carried bouquets of shaded hydrangeas and autumn leaves and foliage, and wore the bridegroom's gift of gold bangles. The bridegroom was supported by "Mr. flyneG Mander as best man, and Mr! Chum Gilbert as groomsman. After the ceremony the wedding party and guests motored to the residence of the bride's parents, where all eat down to a sumptuous breakfast the usual toasts being honored- The presents were numerous and costly several cheques being included. The happy couple left by the afternoon train for Cambridge, where the honeymoon is to be spent.

HAMBLYN—FISCHER. ' A pretty wedding was solemnised at the Roman Catholic Church, Stratford, on Wednesday. June 2, the contracting parties being Reginald William Hamblyn, eldest eon of Mr. and Mrs. W. Hamblvn, Midbirst, to Ellen Johanna (Nel'iel Fischer, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D Fischer, "Glen View," Midliirst. The bride was attired in a gown of crepe de soje with the orthodox veil and oranire blossoms. To complete the toilette ghe carried a shower bouquet of chrysanthemums and maiden hair fern. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Lena Fischer, as bridesmaid, who was attired in a very dainty apricot crepe de chene and smart black hat, with tonings of apricot, and bouquet to blend with frock. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Louis Fischer, brother of the bride. The happy couple left for the south, amidst showers of confetti nnd good wishes. The bride's travelling costuipe was a smart saxe blue gabardine, vionx rose toque and a brown fox fur. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a cheque and gold wristlet watch, and to the ibride-maid a pretty fiscle brooch set with pearls. The bride's present to the groom was a gold watch and chain. The wedding reception was held at (lie Foresters' Hall, where about ninety guests were present.
