Aviation circles were astonished at tlie success of Hinckler's Turin flight. They regard it as one of the most remarkable in the history of flying, in view of the size of the aeroplane, which i$ only equipped with a 35 horse-power engine.
The newspaper Aeroplane says Hinckler is a very fine navigator, who invented one of the cleverest ispeed and drift indicators yet produced. He is also an exceptional pilot, full of pluck, determination, and unflagging cheerfulness. He had a fine war rpcord. He came to England at his own expense and joined the Royal Naval Air Force. His service included anti-zeppelin work and sooutijjg (in rPrencii and Itajian waters.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
[Hinckler, who is flying in a baby Avro, left •proydon (London) at 4.50 a.m. on Monday, anil arrived at Turin at 2.30 in the afternoon. This is the first time the journey has been done in one day, and is believed to be the longest non-stop flight ever yet made over land. The distance from London to Turin is 78" miles.]
