ILLEGAL BOOKMAKERS THRIVE. STORIES OP "PULLED" HORSES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.;-Copyrlght. Received June 4, 12.5 am, London, June 3. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Chronicle reports that a turf scandal has been revealed at St. Cloud as a reRult of a jockey, accused of pulling a favorite, admitting he was guilty and pleading that other jockeys also received bribes from bookmakers. An investigation showed that although bookmaking is illegal £400,000 is being placed with bookmakers every day. Bookmakers have an army of touts in the cafes and restaurants. Certain jockeys have been participating in bookmakers' profits after pulling heavily-backed horses. It is now proposed te open "totalisator offices in Pari*, and to impose heavy increases in the penalties against bookmakers in order to stop bookmaking.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
