NAVY IN THE PACIFIC. POLICY NOT DECIDED. Washington, June 1. Japanese diplomats express the hope that the United States will become a party to the British-Japanese defence alliance. Britain will submit the question of the renewal of the past agreement to the Dominions' Conference to be held in Lindon shortly. In the House of Commons, discussing ♦he navy estimates, Commander Bellairs asked if the fleet was to be concentrated at Home or were we to have a great Pacific fleet, as now-there is no menace in the North Sea. We must have an outlook on the Pacific. Mr. Walter Long (First Lord of the Admiralty) replied that certain matters of policy could not be discussed. A number of questions of future policy were now before a committee for examination and a declaration of policy would be made as soon as the Admiralty saw its way clear. Defending the expenditure on oil fuel basts he said it was the bounden duty of the Admiralty to see that the storage was aucb that it was impossible for ships to be deficient in supplies wherever ihey might be throughout the world.— Aus.-N.Z.
