The Governor-General has b«en ad* vised that His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased on the occasion of His Majesty's birthday to confer upon Mr. John Roberts, C.M.G., of Dunedin, Hie honor of Knight Bachelor, and upoa Air. Thomas Noel Brodrick, 0.8.E* Under-Secretary of the Lands and Survey Department, Wellington, the honor of Companion of the imperial Service Order. Sir John Roberts, who is managing director of Messrs. Murray, Roberts ana Co., was born at Selkirk, Scotland, on Oct. 30, 1845,-and emigrated to Melbourne in 1804 to study station management and the wool business. In 1868 . lie arrived in Dunedin and started business as Murray, Roberts and Co. He is a former Mayor of Dunedin, a director of the Union Steamship Company, and ha? filled other prominent positions. He received the honor of C.M.G. in 1891 in recogntion of his services' in connection with the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition held in Dunedin in ISSD-00. Mr. Thomas N. Brodrick was born in London on December 25, 1855. Since ' coming to New Zealand he has been connected with the Lands and Survey Department.
