A LICENSING POINT. By Telegraph.—Press Assoclatloß Christchurch, June 1. The Magistrate, Mr. McCarthy, in giving reserved judgment to-day, held that the premises or place where a conditional licensee is authorised to sell liquor on the occasion of a gathering are licensed premises within the meaning of tlio Licensing Act, The case arose out of a prohibited person being found in a licensed booth at Addington trotting ground, and the police asked the Magistrate for the ruling. ATTEMPTED ARSON. By Assoolfctlon. Auckland, June 1. In the Supreme Court' George Roussell, who was found guilty of attempted arson at Hikarangi, with a strong recommendation to mercy on the ground that aacuaed was well-behaved -when sober, was sentenced to 18 months' hard labor. CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS, Wellington, June 1. The Seamen's Union, at a stop-work meeting to-day, passed a motion requesting the Government "to raise the policy of vindictiveness" by immediately releasing all conscientious objectors and other military offenders, and that the defaulters', list and the law under which it was made, including the war regulations, be repaled.
